LIGHTS, CAMERA AND ATOMS!!!!!

Literally cool!!!!
The curious bug present in human’s mind wondered since the beginning of human civilization:

“What the heck is everything really made of?”

Good news for us as we know it.

As we see all around us every matter seems to be made of a continuous substance. The ultimate solute water too seems to be made of continuous substance. You know, it doesn’t fall in pieces if you pour it! ;). This belief was taken seriously for centuries. Other’s thought matter is made of separate and very, very small discreet particles.

If the latter belief is true then we can think of matter as a chain of particles as at high magnification it will automatically look as a chain of particles. As common sense says, that a chain can be 4 links long or 50 links long or 500 links long but it can never be 4.5 links long as this 4.5 link will automatically break the chain. Once the links are broken or cut, the important characteristics of a chain are lost.

Matter of fact:

Democritus a Greek philosopher, mathematician and astronomer is credited for being the first to name all those small and discrete particles. He called them atomos (Greek for uncuttable).
The existence of atoms remained a hot topic for debates for over a millennia. It remained a philosophical topic. Hence, no one can either prove or disprove the existence of atoms.

Theory Summary: Thermodynamics

In the second half of the 19TH century a guy named Ludwig Boltzmann, an Austrian mathematician and physicist wanted to learn why these laws were so accurate. He wondered of that why the heck gases have temperature and a pressure. He found a solution for this dilemma. He used Classical Mechanics and Probability and Statistics of mathematics. He formed very successful and predictable theory on the foundation of an assumption that matter was made of a vast number of very small atoms. His theory is called Statistical Mechanics.

Theory Summary: STATISTICAL MECHANICS:

As always many scientists attacked the successful theory of Statistical Mechanics and asked for the direct evidence: “If atoms exist, show me one.” Especially Austrian physicist Ernst Mach (known for the Mach number for measuring airspeed) and German physicist Wilhelm Ostwald promoted an alternative theory Energetics which opposed the existence of atoms.

Unfortunately, this was affecting the health of Boltzmann. He had rapid and severe mood swings and Boltzmann committed suicide in response to the rejection of his life’s work.

The bug discussed in the beginning was killed by a clerk in Swiss patent office and the belief of Boltzmann was justified.

Don't be surprised, Individual atoms were arranged in the form of Star Trek by IBM!!!!!!

Now, a century later we can image individual atoms.

Talking about the size, a carbon atom is 0.000,000,03 cm across. All other atoms range from three times larger or three times smaller than an individual carbon atom.
